The new design matches the design efforts of the mobile Top stories section that launched about two years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Google\u2019s confirmation.<\/strong> A Google spokesperson confirmed with Search Engine Land that this new design is rolling out globally now. \u201cWe\u2019re always working to make it easier for people to dive into the most useful, timely articles available through Search to help them form a better understanding of the world and the topics they care about most,\u201d Google told us. \u201cThis newly launched feature is the desktop version of the Top stories experience you can already find on mobile,\u201d the search company added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What it looks like.<\/strong> Here are a couple of screenshots of the new look:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenfintech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/google-top-stories-desktop-873x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-block-image size-large\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Large featured image with small images for other stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenfintech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/google-top-stories-desktop2-1024x937.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-block-image size-large\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Earlier version.<\/strong> Google started to roll out this design over the weekend but tested this design on desktop as far back as a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google\u2019s Top stories box view looked like this, but Google also had a list view which had them stacked on top of each other:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenfintech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/old-top-stories.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\" \/><figcaption>The Top stories carousel view.<\/figcaption>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenfintech.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/old-top-stories-list.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-block-image size-full\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Top stories list view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why we care.<\/strong> Top stories can send publishers a lot of search traffic from Google Search. The new design may end up impacting that traffic, you may see more if you are featured in the large image box or you may see less.
